Akita

Akitas make a great dog for kids if introduced to children as a puppy. They learn quickly but can be very stubborn. With training they can become obedient housepets.

Akitas are big and strong and make good watch dogs and guard dogs. A male can reach 100 pounds and a female can reach 85 pounds.

They need a fair amount of outdoor exercise but are somewhat inactive indoors. They require about 15 minutes of grooming twice a week.

Akitas originated in Japan and were still fairly new to the United States just 30 years ago.

The following video gives you a good background in Akitas.
