Alaskan Malamute

"Lifelong puppies" is what one person said of Alaskan Malamutes. They love to play.

They are somewhat slow to learn and make poor watch dogs and even worse guard dogs because they like everyone.

They are wonderful with children but can play too rough for young children.

They need lots of daily running, especailly if they are expected to live in close quarters, such as in an apartment. Without lots of outdoor exercise they tend to be very active indoors.

They may be quarrelsome with strange dogs. They are gentle with people.

Originating in Alaska, their special skill is pulling sleds. They average 75-85 pounds and require about 20 minutes of grooming twice each week.
