Basset Hound
Basset Hounds like everyone. No breed is more placid and gentle. We lived next door to one for years and never felt threatened by her.
Cleo was a sweet dog but she was left alone a lot and would sit in the backyard and bark and bark because she was bored and lonely.
Basset Hounds learn somewhat slowly, and while are an alert watchdog they are not guarddogs. They get along with strangers and strange dogs.
They are exceptional with children, which makes them an excellent choice for a family. In any kind of living situation, city, country, apartment, they are easy to live with and take care of.
Basset Hounds are hardy. The one we knew lived a long and healthy life, outliving our Fox/Bull Terrier mix by several years even though they were born only a few days apart.
They are short, but stocky, weighing about 50 pounds but less than 15 inches tall. Grooming is minimal, about 10 minutes twice a week.
