Belgian Shepherd - Belgian Tervuren

Like the German Shepherd and Bernese Mountain Dog, the Belgian Shepherd or Sheepdog and the Belgian Tervuren are very quick to learn, obedient, very alert watchdogs and guarddogs by nature.

The Belgian breeds are good with children, but should not be introduced into a household with children after early puppyhood. Many kennels are breeding inferior dogs that are timid, volatile and make difficult pets.

Belgian Shepherds and Belgian Tervurens should be gentle with everyone except intruders. They are unpredictable with strange dogs.

They are somewhat active indoors and need a lot of exercise.

These two breeds are about 55-75 pounds, have a straight, dense coat that sheds heavily once a year, and need daily grooming.

Their special skills are herding and guarding.

The only difference between the Belgian Shepherd and Belgian Tervuren is the color of their fur. The Shepherd is black and the Tervuren is fawn-to-mahogany. Because the Shepherd is black, it is more senstive to heat than the Tervuren.

This video will give you lots of information about the Belgian Shepherd and the Belgian Tervuren.
